What Makes the Kuppersmith Project Tick?

Fall 2010
Welcome to this special edition of our newsletter dedicated to The Kuppersmith Project, Danny Lipford's "remaking" of a classic American home.

The Power of the Kuppersmith Project

generac generator

Danny Lipford is replacing the original 1920's electrical system in the Kuppersmith home, and adding a central air and heating unit to keep the home cool and comfortable. Generac Power Systems is protecting both from power outages with a 20 kilowatt (kW) Guardian® Series home standby generator.

One of the most popular—and powerful—units in the best-selling Guardian Series, the 20 kW unit features a rugged Generac OHVI® engine, engineered specifically for generator use. The unit will turn on automatically in a power outage and run continuously—for as long as necessary—using the existing natural gas fuel supply. When utility power returns, the generator automatically turns off and goes into standby mode.

Generac's Nexus Smart Switch™, the smartest transfer switch on the market, will manage power to the Kuppersmith home's electrical system. Engineered with Generac's Digital Load Management™ (DLM ) technology, the Nexus Smart Switch has load shedding technology built right in. That means it sheds non-essential circuits when the generator approaches maximum capacity to avoid overload, and cycles those circuits back on when essential circuits are satisfied—for whole house coverage. It even has the ability to manage two air conditioners without adding additional components or cost.

Making the Most of Kitchen Storage

EP Moen

-Consumers consider storage features to be the most important factor in their cabinetry decision process-

A place for everything and everything in its place. This may seem like a lofty goal, but with a few smart storage accessories from Merillat cabinets, organization will be easy to achieve in the Kuppersmith home, especially when it comes to the kitchen.

Merillat's most recent research study revealed that 84 percent of consumers consider storage features to be the most important factor in their cabinetry decision process. And while consumers know they want more storage, they often don't know what's available to them.

According to Paul Radoy, manager of design services for Merillat, the best way to approach kitchen organization and storage is to look at the room in sections. "All kitchens have a cooking zone and a cleanup zone," he says. "And some kitchens may have an island or pantry. Each of these areas lends themselves to various storage options such as a spice drawer organizer, pull out waste basket or even a tall pantry with pull out shelves."

The kitchen is the center of activity and people are using them for everything from cooking to crafting. Merillat's meaningful innovation and smart storage solutions can bring order not only to that area, but to your life and will provide you with a kitchen that suits your individual lifestyle.

Making Sense of WaterSense®

EP Moen

Moen® Helps You Save Water and Money in Your Bath with the Best Sustainable Products

With so many products claiming to be green these days, it's hard to know which ones are the real deal. A great indicator for certified sustainability in the bathroom is the WaterSense® label, which is granted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Moen, the number one faucet brand in North America and a sponsor of the Kuppersmith Project, has recently been named the 2010 WaterSense Manufacturer Partner of the Year for its significant WaterSense-labeled product offerings and efforts to promote the benefits of WaterSense to consumers and trade audiences.

There are a number of product categories that carry the WaterSense label, including faucets, which account for approximately 15 percent of indoor household water use. You can save water – even when the faucet is running – by installing a model that's certified to meet WaterSense criteria.

Fortunately, Moen's entire collection of lavatory faucets are WaterSense certified making it easy to reduce water usage and be stylish at the sink. The faucets feature a 1.5 gallon per minute (gpm) flow rate versus the industry standard of 2.2 gpm, resulting in water conservation of up to 32 percent.

A product that meets WaterSense criteria features the label on its packaging, making it easy to spot these sustainable products at your local retail and wholesale locations. By incorporating these products into your home, you can expect exceptional performance, a smaller water bill and the great feeling that comes with saving water for future generations.

Painters put FrogTape® to Use on Kuppersmith Project

frogtape

After 84 years, the Kuppersmith home in Mobile, Alabama, is finally getting a much-needed renovation. In addition to improvements that add space and functionality to the home and an exterior transformation which will enhance curb appeal, the updated look inside will include a fresh coat of paint in nearly every room.

Since nothing can ruin a room makeover like a poor paint job, Danny Lipford and his painters have chosen FrogTape® brand painter's tape - the premium painter's tape – for the Kuppersmith home.

"FrogTape is the only painter's tape with PaintBlock® Technology, the latest technological breakthrough that prevents paint bleed and allows users to achieve crisp, sharp lines," Danny said. The edges of FrogTape are treated with PaintBlock, causing latex paint to instantly gel the minute it comes in contact with the tape, sealing the edges and providing a barrier to stop the paint from bleeding through. "FrogTape also removes easily and can be used to create interesting designs, making it ideal for innovative décor," Danny added.

FrogTape is available in several widths to accommodate many patterns and paint projects. It can be purchased at The Home Depot, Walmart, Lowe's and Sherwin-Williams stores and other fine paint and hardware retailers across the country.
