How To Spring Clean The Outside Of Your Home

Cleaning and repairing the outside of your home doesn’t have to be a spring project, though it is nice to get outside and enjoy the warm weather after a long, cold winter spent inside.

Here are some often neglected outdoor maintenance projects you might want to consider tackling and enjoy the change of season.

While scrubbing is not necessary, adding detergent to the reservoir of the pressure washer can help loosen stubborn dirt and debris.

Adding A Wood Frame To A Bathroom Mirror

Does your bathroom need a little facelift? Dressing up a bathroom mirror can add elegance and a revitalized feel to the room. One easy way to dress up the bathroom mirror is to add a frame made from stock door casing with either mitered or plinth blocks corners. The frame can be painted or stained to the desired finish to match your décor.

Here’s how to make a wood frame for your mirror:

  1. Measure the outside dimensions of the frame, so it overlaps the mirror.
  2.  Cut the corners on the frame square if using plinth blocks, or at a 45° angle if mitered.

How To Stop Squeaks In Stairs

As most of us learned at one time or another, wooden staircases develop squeaks when there’s a gap between the tread and stringer. There are several ways to fix wood stairs that squeak, including:

  • For stairs with access from below, drive wood shims between the tread and stringer from below, and seal them with construction adhesive.
  • For carpeted stairs that don’t have access from below, drive small diameter screws through carpet.
