Fireplace Safety for Your Home
A fireplace makes for a cozy setting, but it can be a safety hazard. Keep the following in your home:
- Fire Extinguisher: You should have one for every 600 square feet of living space and on each floor.
- Smoke Detector: Since smoke rises, they should be installed high up on walls or on the ceiling on every floor and in or near bedrooms.
- Carbon Monoxide Detector: Install them on every level of the home as well as in or near all sleeping areas.
"ACT" To Reduce Energy Bills
To lower energy bills in your home, Danny advises that you stick to the acronym "ACT".
A - Adjust your thermostat. For every degree you lower your thermostat, you can save 2-3% on your energy bill.
C - Change your habits. Unplug electronics, put your computer on sleep mode, wash your clothes in cold water.
T – Take the initiative. Plug up those leaky doors and windows with caulk and weather stripping.

The Possibilities of Plastic
Danny has recently partnered with Plastics Make it PossibleSM, an initiative sponsored by the plastics industries of the American Chemistry Council, to feature the many ways that innovative plastic products are used in both renovations and new construction.
As part of the relationship, Danny has developed a series of do-it-yourself videos that feature the use of various types of plastic products such as insulating foams, plastic composite lumber, and vinyl windows. Plastic building materials are used throughout the home for insulation, sealants, molding, plumbing, roofing, decking and more. Many of these products can help increase a home's energy efficiency and reduce its environmental impact.
"The advantages of plastic home building products include their durability, versatility, and ability to save energy," said Danny.
The videos are featured on both plasticsmakeitpossible.com and dannylipford.com.
